Anyone for Pool Noodles?

The brains trust over at the Facebook Group: Everything Caravan and Camping have outdone themselves again. (Image taken by Ian Carlton) In response to a post asking how pool noodles can be used, the brains trust came up with some fantastic ideas. This list is by no means complete. We were gobsmacked at how the humble pool noodle can be put to multiple uses. So take the idea/s that resonate with you and happy pool noodling your way around Aussie land.

Exterior to vehicle:

Cut to size and cable tie to sharp side of pull out step.  Will save little ones cracking their heads open if they lose their balance and fall.

Wrap PVC pipes under van in pool noodles and cable ties to prevent stones from breaking the PVC pipes.

Place a noodle piece cut down and put in door handle so security door can’t latch when wind catches the door as you go in and out

Attach to top of roof awnings to prevent bounces to the awning in strong winds.

Use pool noodles in canopy to stop things rubbing together whilst driving.

Cut in half and place them on the van roof rafters to prevent damage to the rafters when windy.

Place noodles on the roof rack (with no baskets on the rack) to prevent the frame of the roof rack beting damaged.

Use pool noodles as an anti flapper to slide out awings.

Cut pool noodle to size of car window and then wind window with elctric cord to fridge.  This will prevent the cord from being cut in half and also keep food and drinks in fridge cold.

Snugly place pool noodle cut to size between driver’s door and tow mirrow to prevent mirror from blowing to door frame when road train passes by.

Kitchen

Slice bits of pool noodle and place over edge of fridge door to keep fridge adjar when not in use.

Cut to fit front of fridge shelves to prevent things moving whilst driving.

Place noodles cut to 20mm size and place them under the fridge baskets.

Cut to size and place sharp knives in them.

Cut to size and slit down middle to place on sides of glass microwave table to prevent slippage and breaking the glass table whilst driving.  Another option is to place pool noodle cut to size vertically between microwave table and roof of the microwave to prevent the glass table from slipping whilst driving.

Place a small noodle piece on middle shelf bar of slide out pantry to prevent movement whilst driving.

Toilet & Bathroom Area

Use to prop up toilet seat lightly to prevent seat scratching the toilet seat.

Toilet seat cushion for those make shift toilets

Cut noodle half in length and width ways and place against leading edge of bathroom door. 

When the door works itself open whilst driving, the noodle will prevent damage to the door jam.

Cut to size and place at bottom of bathroom dooropening  to prevent the door coming off its hanger whilst driving. Shower hose and head

Interior & Exterior of Van

Use pool noodles as bump guards on doors, windows, awnings, guy ropes and pegs.  Not only very colourful but easy to see.

Place cut to size pool noodles on the bars of pop up windows in the van to stop hitting one’s head on these bars.

Slip pool noodle of UHF radio aerial to help prevent the arial from snapping whilst driving on corrugated iron roads.

Place behind TV to prevent movement whilst travelling the road.

Wrap pool noodle around water hose to keep water hose cool in summer.

Wardrobe

Keep riding boots straight by placing a cut to size pool noodle in each boot when storing the riding boots.

Cut pool noodles in 1″ pieces and then place over hanging rods to prevent coathangers from slipping whilst travelling on the road.

Bedroom

Place pool noodle under mattress at the end of the bed to prevent the doona from sliding off.  Can also place the noodle between the fitted sheet and mattress to achieve same goal.

Many have a range of ways to prevent blankets and doonas from sliding off the bed. 

Another is to cable tie the pool noodle to the metal frame of the lift up bed to achieve this.

Want to prevent hubby or partner kicking you in their sleep?  Place a pool noodle under the fitted sheet at between you both and whalla this stops them kicking you in their dreams.

Keep little one’s tucked up safely in bed by cutting pool noodles to size and making a triangle and cable tie to bed or place under fitted sheets.  Stops the children rolling out of bed.  Can also be used a guard rail on bunk beds for little ones.  

Place a noodle between the mattress and canvas wall to tack out the slack of the tent roof.  This will prevent condensation touching you or the foam mattress.

Double Fold Camp Trailers. Place noodle underneath the draft stopping flaps over the folds so that when short people and children climb over into bed they dont cop the brunt of the join in the crotch!!

Laundry

Place noodles in washing machine drum to stop the drum bouncing around whilst driving.

Place noodles on both sides of the exterior of the washing machine to catch socks and undies falling into the space crevices.

Sports

Cut down the middle of the pool noodle to store fishing rods whilst travelling.

Place fishing hook barb in and then wrap line around the noodle and whalla you have ready made fishing hooks for when you want to stop and do a quiet spot of fishing.

Cut to size and zip tie to children’s fishing rods.  No more fishing rods lost in the river or lake!

Swipe hubby or partner, or travelling companion when you get annoyed!!!!

Place noodles over bike handles and pedals to prevent them scratching the van’s paint work whilst travelling on the road.

Water blaster when swimming! Have a noodle fight with the kids.  Lots of fun and expending excess energy!!!

Camp Chairs

Create a comfy foot rest to a recliner camp chair by placing a cut to size pool noodle over the bar to chair.

For the Home

For the home rather than when travelling. 

Slit the pool noodle in half to the required length and place around new trees to prevent rabbits from accessing the new trees.

Cut up pool noodles and place over springs on the trampoline. Place over shed post in order not to scrape paint when opening car doors.
